» Conduct radiographic and fluoroscopic machine inspections and evaluations in accordance with applicable state requirements.

» Conduct quality control evaluations to assess optimum performance of x-rays systems to “image gently” and “image wisely” to attain the highest optimum quality images with the lowest radiation dose possible.

» Perform all necessary tests and measurements in accordance with the radiology services scope of work criteria with state-of-the-art instrumentation calibrated annually to verify accuracy of measurement data.

» Perform embryo (uterine) dose estimates.

» Provide timely (usually 7-10 days) reports to the facility’s radiology managers subsequent to completion of the required tests and measurements specifically outlining in a detailed and concise manner any action to be taken to comply with regulations or recommendations for quality improvement.

» Communicate with radiologists, radiology managers, and radiographers as necessary to provide radiation safety consultation.

» Schedule required radiation physics services at each facility with the radiology manager, in advance, to meet required inspection deadlines.

» Perform shielding calculations for new or replacement installations.

» Perform shielding verification surveys of rooms where ionizing radiation will be emitted, as required for Joint Commission standards.


Evaluations may be scheduled at semiannual or annual intervals depending on facility needs.
